3M approached us to design and manufacture a competitively priced, portable retail unit, used by 3M distributors to display personal protection equipment.
Brief
Our brief from The Personal Safety division of 3M explained the requirement for an attractive, clearly branded Point Of Sale unit that would last the duration of a 12-18 month promotion for house respirators, ear defenders and safety glasses.
Solution
We produced a couple of concept CAD visuals, exploring various ways of displaying personal protection equipment. One integrated them into the backboard by using a cut out of a figure to display the product, as it would be worn. Due to the budget, this idea was rejected and we altered the design to display protective eye-wear on the backboard.
Maximising the retail space within the POS unit we altered the bottom tray and included a PVC shelf, increasing the retail space by over 600 square inches.
Working with the manufacturer, we developed the unit further by altering the pole configuration and adding graphic fascias for the shelf and top tray. The polypropylene and high-impact polystyrene unit could be flat-packed into an individual reusable carton weighing only 10kg, easily assembled by distributors.
Result
The units were rolled out over a 7-month period to 3M’s distributor network and have been well received.
